Bakeroni

Last Friday, Jin, Andrew and I had decided to have our 'yumcha' session at a nearby cafe called Bakeroni.
Bakeroni is located at 9A, Jalan Desa Jaya, Taman Desa. The cafe is 2-3 shops next to Public Bank. This is the second time i am visiting this place. This cafe is well known for their bakeries, toast in particular. The cafe is divided to Smoking and Non Smoking area. The cafe is air conditioned and very clean too. Inside the cafe, I notice that there are plenty of magazines and newspaper cutting that wrote on the recommendation on this cafe.

The cafe offer a huge variety of menu. There are also set lunch, set dinner and tea break set which offer at an affordable price. The menu include toast, croissant, chicken chop, fish and chips, soup, spaghetti and many more. There are also plenty of choices for drinks.
Anyway, since 3 of us want to try different food, so we decided to order for sharing. We had ordered Sinful toast, Croissant (Turkey ham, egg, salad), Huzaren toast, Turkey ham, egg and cheese toast, fries, ice- cream and 2 iced lemon tea (me and Andrew).

The ice cream came to our table first. There are 3 type of flavours; chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. There are some toppings on top of the ice cream ; chocolate rice, 2 slices of biscuits and whipped cream. I had a few spoon of ice cream and the rest was eaten by Jin. Overall the ice cream tasted normal only not haagen dazz or baskin robins, but Jin did comment that the ice cream kinda melt a bit too fast.

Ice cream (rainbow ice cream, if not mistaken)

Next was the croissant. The croissant looks very delicious. It was cutted into 3 pieces, each for 3 of us. There are a lot of salad (lettuce), tomatoes slices, cucumber slices ,onion rings, turkey hams and boiled eggs stuffed into the croissant. The croissant was filled will fresh mayonise sauce. In short, the crossaint is very filling!!! It was well stuffed with the fillings! The croissant itself is already very tasty. It was freshly baked, the skin is very crispy but the bread is very soft. It also had a great taste of butter. The vegetables stuffed inside is very fresh too. It goes very well with the mayonise sauce. While the boiled egg and turkey ham also tasted very good with the croissant!! Overall it is as good as its look!! very delicious.

Croissant.. yummy

Later, the long waited sinful toast came. I had wanted to taste the sinful toast for quite sometime already. From the picture in the menu, it looks like a toast covered with a lot of chocolate sauce!!.
Anyway, the toast is covered with some cocoa powder (i guess is Milo), there are lots of raisin on all over the toast. The toast was topped with a slice of Cheddar cheese and heated for a while. The Cheddar cheese is already soften and melted when it was served. It was as chocolate as I expected. I am not a fan of raisin, so i don't quite enjoy the toast. The cheese, raisins and cocoa powder didn't go very well together. 3 of us didn't really favoured it..I had an idea, instead of using raisin, I would prefer if it is chocolate chip, or koko crunch, choco rice or choco pops. It will allow me to have something crispy to chew with these hot toast! hehe...

Sinful Toast (not that sinful)

Next was the Huzaren toast. The Huzaren toast is covered with lots of Cheese.. Inside the cheese there are some mix vegetables ; carrot cubes, onion cubes, capsicum slices mix together on top of the toast. Jin and Andrew said that this toast is more sinful as there are lots of cheese topped on the toast! If you like to eat cheese and vegetables you will defiantely enjoy this toast. It is quite filling and 3 of us like it very much!

Huzaren toast

The fries came when we were eating our Huzaren toast, It was a normal french fries. The thin one not the fat one like TGIF served. However, french fries had always been a good snack to be shared.

French Fries

The last food that came was the turkey ham, egg and cheese toast! The toast certainly looks very delicious! There are together 4 pair of sandwiches in 1 serving. The egg is very tasty as it was fried nicely, not too raw or overcooked, just nice. There egg portion is quite big inside each sandwich. The turkey ham and cheese also tasted very nice and fresh. The cheese melt as it was heated in the oven together with the turkey ham, egg and bread. This toast is certainly a good choice for breakfast or lunch with a cup of tea. I really like it very much. During lunch hour, this toast is one of the Set meal menu. I believe this toast is also the cafe signature toast, as I saw a lot of people ordering it.

Turkey ham egg and cheese toast

Overall, i like most of the menu in this restaurant. There are a variety of toasts and bakeries available. I would certainly go back to this place again!
Note; From my first visit, I tried its Bakeroni toast, it tasted very nice too. Like a mini pizza

Krispy Kreme

Doughnut ...Doughnut....Yummy!!

The moment I reached Hong Kong I already told Jaime that I want to eat Krispy Kreme!!!!..

She told me to just walk around Hong Kong if see any, we go and eat else .....because she is unsure of the location. :(
As we walk along Hong Kong Island towards the longest escalator in Hong Kong, we came across a street named, Elgin street...Out of sudden, I heard Jaime shouted 'Krispy Kreme!!!' ......

Krispy Kreme at Elgin Street

We were so happy and excited when we saw it and quickly grab a few photos before entering the shop to get out DOUGHNUTS!!!

Jaime and I were too busy looking at the doughnuts baked and displayed at the counter, while Kit took a seat in the shop. There are lots of variety (flavour) of doughnuts available. The personnel actually told us that some of the flavours are the normal ones where u can buy in any Krispy Kreme outlets around the world and some are only available in Hong Kong. (guess this guy knew that we are not from Hong Kong).

The Price Menu

Anyway Jaime and I couldn't care for more we just pick the doughnut from the 'outlook'.
We bought 1/2 dozen , the flavours that we picked was; green tea, caramel glazed, cheese cake, chocolate, chocolate(different type) and all time favourite ORIGINAL GLAZE!!!!!
I can say all the flavours tasted super delicious!!!!
The doughnuts is so soft and hot (freshly baked). It would melt the moment you bite and put inside your mouth! Yummy!!!....

Doughtnut that we bought (should buy more, regret)

The doughnut is still very fresh even we eat it the next 2 days. It still taste very good!
Krispy Kreme certainly taste better than, Big Apple and J Co but I would agree that Big Apple and J Co have a wider variety of flavours.
Krispy Kreme ORIGNAL GLAZE definitely rules!!

Cafe De Coral (Tai Kar Lok)

Some food that I had in Hong Kong...

On the first night in Hong Kong, Jaime and I had decided to have our dinner in Hong Kong fast food chain or cafeteria. We decided to walk along the street and find if there is any famous local fast food restaurant....

After walking a while, we finally found Cafe De Coral!!!
This is a famous Chinese fast food chain in Hong Kong. It is called Tai Kar Lok (Cantonese). This fast food chain had actually used various of Hong Kong artist as their spoke person and advertisement personality. If I am not wrong, previously the advertisement personality was Chapman Tao, but now I notice that they are using Alex Fong as one of thier advertisment personality.

Andy Lau ..... (not related but just want to put coz it looks so real)

The fast food restaurants in Hong Kong are very different from the one we had in Malaysia.Instead of serving fried chickens, burgers, fries, wraps, soft drinks and ice cream, the fast food restaurant there served almost the same menu as the Hong Kong cafeteria in Malaysia eg; Kim Gary, Wong Kok etc. Cafe De Coral even served individual Steamboat set in their fast food chain.

There are lots of variety in the Menu...The restaurant practiced semi self service way. Nearby the entrance of the restaurant, u can see the Menus carefully displayed, u ordered there and make your payment there.Later, with the resit you claim your food at the food counter and get a seat on your preference.
I can said that, the Hong Kies certainly work faster and more efficient compare to the fast food restaurant in here.

OK OK...back to what i had in Cafe D Coral.
3 of us (me, Jaime and Kit) had order each a different set of meal , so that we had share among us.
I ordered a Hainese Chicken Rice set , Jaime ordered a Shanghai braised pork ribs meal and Kit ordered a Combo sauce pork chop rice.

My Hainese Chicken Rice is quite delicious. This Hainese chicken rice come with a drink. There are 3 type of sauce given together with this meal. Those sauce are ; black soya sauce, chilies paste sauce and ginger paste sauce. There are also some cabbages and cucumber slices on the plate of chicken rice.
The chicken is very smooth. It is not very salty, it goes well with the ginger paste sauce.
The chicken texture is not hard at all, but the skin is slightly 'fat'. For those who loves chicken skin will love this Hainese chicken.

Hainese Chicken Rice

Jaime's Shanghai Braised pork rib is tasty! Initially I also wanted to order this meal, but since I thought I can try from Jaime's so I decided to order Hainese Chicken Rice. This Shanghai Braised Pork Rib meal come with a bowl of rice, a plate of ma poh tofu and a drink. The pork ribs taste very special. The pork ribs taste a bit sweet and salty. There are some pickles on top of the ribs that add some 'sour' flavour to it. The ma poh tofu is delicious too. It is not very spicy even there is a lot of chilies on in. I like the bowl of rice, as there are a lot of vegetables inside the bowl of white rice.

Shanghai Braised Pork Ribs Rice

The combo sauce of pork chop rice tasted quite nice. It is similar to the baked rice in Hong Kong cafeteria in Malaysia. The white sauce contains of mozzarella cheese, while the red sauce is actually tomato sauce which is similar to marinara sauce. There are some capsicum slices, pineapple cubes and cucumber added in the red sauce pork chop. There are a lot of rice below this Pork chop combo. We can hardly finish the rice..... Both the pork chop is fresh and not too hard. The sauce is just nice, not too salty and lots of cheese in the white sauce.

Combo sauce pork chop rice

Overall Cafe De Carol is a good place to visit for dinner or lunch if you are in Hong Kong.
I will certainly go back to this fast food chain if I happen to be in Hong Kong again.

Overall rating:

  • Food : 6.5/10
  • Service : 8/10(super fast)
  • Price : around RM12-RM15 (per set ; A main dish and 1 drink)

Nagomi (Shabu Shabu)

Last week, Kit and I went to try out a Shabu Shabu restaurant at Hartamas Shopping Center.

The name of the restaurant is Nagomi. I didn't notice this restaurant till Kit told me about it.
It was located at the lowest floor of Hartamas Shopping Center , beside the Chinese restaurant opened by some Hong Kong artists (Eric Tsang, Jerry Lam, Chin Kar Lok, etc). Opposite Nagomi is a shop that sells Wines.

Inside the restaurant

Since this is the first time we visiting this place, we had decided to share a set meal and some side dishes or 'add on'. There are a lot of variety in the menu. Such as Kobe beef, sirloin beef, chicken, fish and duck :S
There are also a variety of sushi available to go with the Shabu Shabu.
Nagomi served 3 kinds of different soup based ; Nagomi (their secret recipe), Chicken and forgotten (sorry)...
After some discussions, we decided to order the Kobe beef set (yummy!!!), two side dish, (sushi); Salmon sushi and Spider sushi and green tea for each of us.

Shabu shabu menu

The Shabu Shabu served with 3 type of sauce : peanut sauce, soya sauce and special chilies paste sauce. The set of Shabu Shabu also include a bowl of rice, cabbages, mushrooms, tofu, bamboo shoots, noodles and carrots. As for the soup based, we had selected the Nagomi soup based.

Kobe Beef Shabu Shabu set

The Kobe Beef is excellent!!.. The Kobe beef is carefully and finely sliced into small pieces.
It was very soft and tasty. Its texture is really different from the normal beef. It was also cooked quite fast. There are not much 'fats' at the Kobe beef slices. It was the best beef i had ever taste. Hurray for Kobe Beef!!!! Yeah!

My Bowl of Kobe beef, tofu bamboo shots and cabbages

The Nagomi soup is quite tasteless before dipping or putting the side dishes (cabbage, mushrooms, tofu etc) and Kobe beef into it. However, once the food are cooked, the Nagomi soup taste better.

We order another plate of Sirloin beef (add on) for the Shabu Shabu.
The Sirloin beef is quite fat and it is more rough as compare to the Kobe beef.
Guess that is the reason of the price difference. The sirloin beef also takes longer time to cooked as compare to the Kobe beef.

Sirloin Beef

While we were enjoying our Kobe beef, the sushi came.
The salmon sushi is 'so so' only ! The salmon is not very fresh and not thick enough (very stingy). The sushi rice tasted like the normal sushi rice only. Nothing special about it. It is defiantly not the best i had tasted.

Salmon Sushi

The Spider sushi (soft shell crab) is not tasty at all! There is very limited or little soft shell crab inside each sushi. I actually tasted more 'fried flour' compare to soft shell crab. I feel so cheated and disappointed when I am eating it..... :(

Spider sushi

I took a peep at the sushi bar, i notice that the chef looks pretty young and not very experienced. sigh...
For the sushi, I can guaranteed Ichiban Izakaya offer better sushi compare to Nagomi.

After finished my meal , i felt very thirsty. I am not so sure if is the soup or the chilies paste that used to eat with the Shabu Shabu. I need to drink a lot of green tea and water to 'washed' the salt and MSG.

However, the design of the restaurant is quite nice and the staffs are friendly.

Overall rating:
  • Environment : 7/10 (design is quite Japanese and restaurant had plenty of space)
  • Food : 6/10
  • Service : 6/10
  • Price : around RM200 (kobe beef shabu shabu set, 2 type of sushi ; each type 4 pieces , add on sirloin beef)
