Nagomi (Shabu Shabu)

Last week, Kit and I went to try out a Shabu Shabu restaurant at Hartamas Shopping Center.

The name of the restaurant is Nagomi. I didn't notice this restaurant till Kit told me about it.
It was located at the lowest floor of Hartamas Shopping Center , beside the Chinese restaurant opened by some Hong Kong artists (Eric Tsang, Jerry Lam, Chin Kar Lok, etc). Opposite Nagomi is a shop that sells Wines.

Inside the restaurant

Since this is the first time we visiting this place, we had decided to share a set meal and some side dishes or 'add on'. There are a lot of variety in the menu. Such as Kobe beef, sirloin beef, chicken, fish and duck :S
There are also a variety of sushi available to go with the Shabu Shabu.
Nagomi served 3 kinds of different soup based ; Nagomi (their secret recipe), Chicken and forgotten (sorry)...
After some discussions, we decided to order the Kobe beef set (yummy!!!), two side dish, (sushi); Salmon sushi and Spider sushi and green tea for each of us.

Shabu shabu menu

The Shabu Shabu served with 3 type of sauce : peanut sauce, soya sauce and special chilies paste sauce. The set of Shabu Shabu also include a bowl of rice, cabbages, mushrooms, tofu, bamboo shoots, noodles and carrots. As for the soup based, we had selected the Nagomi soup based.

Kobe Beef Shabu Shabu set

The Kobe Beef is excellent!!.. The Kobe beef is carefully and finely sliced into small pieces.
It was very soft and tasty. Its texture is really different from the normal beef. It was also cooked quite fast. There are not much 'fats' at the Kobe beef slices. It was the best beef i had ever taste. Hurray for Kobe Beef!!!! Yeah!

My Bowl of Kobe beef, tofu bamboo shots and cabbages

The Nagomi soup is quite tasteless before dipping or putting the side dishes (cabbage, mushrooms, tofu etc) and Kobe beef into it. However, once the food are cooked, the Nagomi soup taste better.

We order another plate of Sirloin beef (add on) for the Shabu Shabu.
The Sirloin beef is quite fat and it is more rough as compare to the Kobe beef.
Guess that is the reason of the price difference. The sirloin beef also takes longer time to cooked as compare to the Kobe beef.

Sirloin Beef

While we were enjoying our Kobe beef, the sushi came.
The salmon sushi is 'so so' only ! The salmon is not very fresh and not thick enough (very stingy). The sushi rice tasted like the normal sushi rice only. Nothing special about it. It is defiantly not the best i had tasted.

Salmon Sushi

The Spider sushi (soft shell crab) is not tasty at all! There is very limited or little soft shell crab inside each sushi. I actually tasted more 'fried flour' compare to soft shell crab. I feel so cheated and disappointed when I am eating it..... :(

Spider sushi

I took a peep at the sushi bar, i notice that the chef looks pretty young and not very experienced. sigh...
For the sushi, I can guaranteed Ichiban Izakaya offer better sushi compare to Nagomi.

After finished my meal , i felt very thirsty. I am not so sure if is the soup or the chilies paste that used to eat with the Shabu Shabu. I need to drink a lot of green tea and water to 'washed' the salt and MSG.

However, the design of the restaurant is quite nice and the staffs are friendly.

Overall rating:
  • Environment : 7/10 (design is quite Japanese and restaurant had plenty of space)
  • Food : 6/10
  • Service : 6/10
  • Price : around RM200 (kobe beef shabu shabu set, 2 type of sushi ; each type 4 pieces , add on sirloin beef)
