Cafe De Coral (Tai Kar Lok)

Some food that I had in Hong Kong...

On the first night in Hong Kong, Jaime and I had decided to have our dinner in Hong Kong fast food chain or cafeteria. We decided to walk along the street and find if there is any famous local fast food restaurant....

After walking a while, we finally found Cafe De Coral!!!
This is a famous Chinese fast food chain in Hong Kong. It is called Tai Kar Lok (Cantonese). This fast food chain had actually used various of Hong Kong artist as their spoke person and advertisement personality. If I am not wrong, previously the advertisement personality was Chapman Tao, but now I notice that they are using Alex Fong as one of thier advertisment personality.

Andy Lau ..... (not related but just want to put coz it looks so real)

The fast food restaurants in Hong Kong are very different from the one we had in Malaysia.Instead of serving fried chickens, burgers, fries, wraps, soft drinks and ice cream, the fast food restaurant there served almost the same menu as the Hong Kong cafeteria in Malaysia eg; Kim Gary, Wong Kok etc. Cafe De Coral even served individual Steamboat set in their fast food chain.

There are lots of variety in the Menu...The restaurant practiced semi self service way. Nearby the entrance of the restaurant, u can see the Menus carefully displayed, u ordered there and make your payment there.Later, with the resit you claim your food at the food counter and get a seat on your preference.
I can said that, the Hong Kies certainly work faster and more efficient compare to the fast food restaurant in here.

OK OK...back to what i had in Cafe D Coral.
3 of us (me, Jaime and Kit) had order each a different set of meal , so that we had share among us.
I ordered a Hainese Chicken Rice set , Jaime ordered a Shanghai braised pork ribs meal and Kit ordered a Combo sauce pork chop rice.

My Hainese Chicken Rice is quite delicious. This Hainese chicken rice come with a drink. There are 3 type of sauce given together with this meal. Those sauce are ; black soya sauce, chilies paste sauce and ginger paste sauce. There are also some cabbages and cucumber slices on the plate of chicken rice.
The chicken is very smooth. It is not very salty, it goes well with the ginger paste sauce.
The chicken texture is not hard at all, but the skin is slightly 'fat'. For those who loves chicken skin will love this Hainese chicken.

Jaime's Shanghai Braised pork rib is tasty! Initially I also wanted to order this meal, but since I thought I can try from Jaime's so I decided to order Hainese Chicken Rice. This Shanghai Braised Pork Rib meal come with a bowl of rice, a plate of ma poh tofu and a drink. The pork ribs taste very special. The pork ribs taste a bit sweet and salty. There are some pickles on top of the ribs that add some 'sour' flavour to it. The ma poh tofu is delicious too. It is not very spicy even there is a lot of chilies on in. I like the bowl of rice, as there are a lot of vegetables inside the bowl of white rice.

Shanghai Braised Pork Ribs Rice

The combo sauce of pork chop rice tasted quite nice. It is similar to the baked rice in Hong Kong cafeteria in Malaysia. The white sauce contains of mozzarella cheese, while the red sauce is actually tomato sauce which is similar to marinara sauce. There are some capsicum slices, pineapple cubes and cucumber added in the red sauce pork chop. There are a lot of rice below this Pork chop combo. We can hardly finish the rice..... Both the pork chop is fresh and not too hard. The sauce is just nice, not too salty and lots of cheese in the white sauce.

Overall Cafe De Carol is a good place to visit for dinner or lunch if you are in Hong Kong.
I will certainly go back to this fast food chain if I happen to be in Hong Kong again.
