Ho Ho Steamboat (Jln Ipoh Yong Tau Foo)

Recently, almost everyday been raining and the weather is so cooling. Therefore last friday Kit and I decided to have steamboat for dinner.
Long long time ago, we had notice that, during dinner hours, the Jln Ipoh Yong Tau Foo had rented their place to someone that serve steamboat.

Steamboat clear soup.

We decided to order the set meal for 2 person, which cause rm13.90 per person. From the menu, the set meal is only applicable to 2 person and above. So no set meal for 1 person....Unlike other steamboat restaurant, this Ho Ho steamboat only serves the 'clear soup'. There isn't any other choice of soup. Actually I was quite disappointed, as I was looking forward to have my steamboat with tom yum soup!

Set meal dishes

Set meal

Like other steamboat restaurant, the food in the set meal are quite standard. There are 2 pork balls, 2 slices of yam, slices of fish, 2 fish balls, Chinese cabbages, 2 prawns, tau fu, tau fu pok, pieces of fu chuk, fish rolls, yee mee, eggs, vermicelli. However, there are also other addtional dish that u can add on. These dishes is not included in the set meal, such as 'kam cham mushrooms', different type of vegetables, etc (sorry i can't remember)

Satay sauce

The steamboat is served with a bowl of 'satay sauce'. There are lots of peanuts inside the satay sauce. The satay sauce is very spicy and taste very good with the pork balls & fu chuk. Yummy.
Overall, the Ho Ho restaurant is quite a good place to hang out if you like clear soup steamboat.
To my surprise, the 'clear soup' taste was not as bad as i thought. It was quite tasty and has a strong taste of anchovies. Hoever, i still prefer my tom yum soup. yummy!
Ok guess is time to rate, since there is nothing much to write about the Ho Ho Steamboat.

Overall rating:

  • Environment : 6.5/10 (there are a lot of fans)
  • Food : 6/10
  • Service : 6/10
  • Price : 13.90 per person (meal)

Jaime's home cook Nasi Lemak & Alvin's Milo Dinosaur

Hi all
I am back again..
Last week, i didn't had any nice food so wasn't too active into writing it.

However, last Tuesday (if not mistaken) i had a home cook Nasi Lemak with Milo Ice. My lovely sister Jaime decided to cook nasi lemak for the us (Alvin , Me, Kit, Money and Kenneth) for dinner. So she invited us to go over for dinner to try her 1st time of cooking Nasi Lemak !!!

Later, the nasi lemak plan was delighted with an idea of Alvin making his signature milo, Milo Dinosaur. I am not sure what type of Milo it is, but i was highly recommended by Jaime who is also a food lover & chocoholic like me!

The dish that Jaime cooked

I am not very sure about how the whole cooking process as i was kinda late to their apartment. When i reach there, most of the dish already nicely served on the table (waiting for me to eat). While Jaime & Money is busy placing the rice plate on the table. Alvin is preparing his Milo Dinosaur!!!!!

Complete dinner of the night!

Me and Kit had bought some chicken wings from Liew Xiang to add some dishes (just in case Jaime's nasi lemak mission failed) : P
Anyway from the outlook of the dish it looks nice and 'interesting' hehe.... After the chicken wing had been placed into the bowl and the Milo Dinosaurs are also ready, i quickly grab a picture of it ( Afraid those dinosaur eat them before i get to take picture)

Jaime had prepared the sambal ikan bilis, ayam masak merah, fried kacang & ikan bilis, boiled egg and cucumber slices for the nasi lemak meal.

My plate of nasi lemak!!

I took a chicken wing from ayam masak merah, some sambal, egg, cucumber, fried kacang&ikan bilis The rice taste is quite nice, almost same as those that we normally get from the morning market. It has big taste and aroma of coconut milk. I think she put a lot of 'santan' into it. It is very filling too.

Sambal ikan bilis

The egg is nicely cook, not overcook or too raw. It is just nice. The fried ikan bilis and kacang taste normal nothing much to comment about it. The sambal ikan bilis is the best dish of that day. Its taste very nice, but i would prefer it a bit spicy as i am a spicy food lover! The sambal is not very oily and the ikan bilis are still crispy. The sambal taste actually reminds me of my old school days' nasi lemak.

Ayam masak merah

The ayam masak merah taste is not bad. But i feel the gravy is not thick enough. In terms of 'spicy-ness', i still hope it can be more spicy!.There are slices of potatoes and carrots mix together with the chicken. I enjoyed eating the potatoes very much as the potato slices had been pre- fried before mixing into the gravy. However i definitely give credits to Jaime as this is her first time cooking it.

Next the Milo Dinosaur from Alvin. The drink consists lots of Milo mix with milk and ice. Then it was finished with lots of Milo powder on top on the drink.! I certainly like it as it has lots of Milo. But some people might find it too thick and too sweet. But i just love it.
Milo Dinosaur ( trust me the taste is much better than the picture)

OK time to rate....

Bavarian Bierhaus German Restaurant and Bar

Last Wednesday, Kenneth and Money ask me and Mkit for dinner at The Curve. That happy couple reached earlier so they are given the task to look for restaurant to dine in.

Bavarian Bierhaus Billboard

When we reached the car park, Money called me and told me a few options to dine in. I had selected this German restaurant and bar as i was craving for German sausages. This restaurant is situated beside Marche, nearby Big apple and Eden restaurant

Restaurant's Bar

The restaurant's environment is good. The restaurant is very huge and the tables are placed nicely for dining and drinks. We sit at the tables along the windows, where the seats are cushioned. The lighting of the restaurant is quite deem, the air cond and the seats are very comfortable.

Me and Money were given the responsibilities to order dishes for sharing. After some discussions, we had decided to order a salad, a soup a pork knuckle and sausages.

Salad (tuna)

The first dish that came was the salad. Actually i found the salad kinda different from others. The salad has a mixture of minced tuna, red chilies and onions. These mixture are served on top of lots of boiled green beans. The salad is finished with a few slices of fried bacon on top of it. To me it looks like a mix tuna dish than a salad, as there are not so much vegetables found on it.

However, this dish taste good. The tuna is fresh and so to the green beans. As I am a bacon lover, the bacon taste very good to me, but i found these few slices are quite 'fat'.

Chowder soup(beef)

The next dish that came along was the soup. The soup was actually ordered by Kenneth. The soup is served in the chowder style. Whereby the soup is filled inside the bowl that made from bread. Again, the soup is very different from others. There are more beefs and side dishes than the soup. There are also some tomatoes, onions and potatoes mix together in it. The beef is not very hard and it has a strong taste of black pepper. While the bread taste was normal to me.

Combo sausage

Not long while we enjoying our salad and soup, the sausages arrived. We decided to ordered the combo sausages for sharing as it consists of all type of sausages. But sadly i couldn't remember how many types of sausages was served on it. There are 2 sizes of sausages , thicker and thinner ones. One of the thinner sausage is actually a lamb sausage. I didn't like it as it has a very strong taste of lamb. While there are about 2 types of chicken sausages that i enjoy it. One of it is quite salty but it actually fit very well with beer. There are also about 2 kinda of pork sausages and 1-2 kind of beef sausage, all of them taste very good!! yummy!!.. On the bottom of the sausages, there are some potato cubes fried into golden brown, as side dishes.

Pork Knuckle

Last but not least, the pork knuckle reached our table. There are few types of pork knuckle available. We had chosen the crispy pork knuckle. The pork knuckle is good enough for 2 person. There are some fried potato cubes, cabbage and special served together with the pork knuckle. The skin is very crispy and the meat taste was good.

Pork Knuckle and special sauce

However, there are some part of the meat texture is quite hard but i remember someone told that it is normal. As some part of the knuckle meats are harder. Anyway this pork knuckle is very tasty and it is not very salty. It goes very well when you deep in into the special sauce. The knuckle that they served to us wasn't too fat so i personally like it that way.

Chocolate cake desert

After the meal, Money ordered a desert. The desert that she ordered was a chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream and a piece of truffle type of chocolate. The chocolate cake is not soft at all. It is very hard and taste 'so so' only. I was quite disappointed with the desert. Money and I finished the vanilla ice cream only as for the cake and truffle it was left unfinished.

Beers

Opps, i nearly forget Mkit, Kenneth and Money ordered a cup of beer for each of themselves. Mkit and Kenneth beer was very smooth. While Money's beer has a taste of honey, it was quite sweet. All 3 beers are Paulaner beer!

Overall rating:
  • Environment : 7.5/10
  • Food : 8/10
  • Service : 7/10
  • Price : RM100++ per person , quite pricey (1 drink+1 salad+1 soup+ 1 Sausages combo+ 1 pork knuckle)

Boon Boon Cafe

Last Monday, I need to meet up with Mkit and our interior designer to pass her the cheque. So our designer friend suggested to us to meet at a nearby cafe named Boon Boon Cafe during lunch time.

Mkit and I reached there early therefore we ordered some food and drink for ourselves first.

Iced peach tea (front) & Ice Jasmine green tea (back)

I ordered a iced peach tea while Mkit ordered a iced jasmine green tea. The tea taste was quite good. My peach tea is not very sweet while the jasmine green tea has a great smell of jasmine flower while maintaining the green tea taste. It is also very cold, suitable for hot and sunny days! :)

Oat Fried chicken (nestume)

Next i ordered the cafe signature appetiser (snack) called Oat fried chickens. This is a boneless chicken coated with oats and deep fried. The chicken is very crunchy but its taste is not as good as i expected. The chicken is kinda tasteless and doesn't have much oats taste on it. But it is very crispy.

Pineapple fried rice

Later, the Pineapple fried rice came to our table. There is a sunny side up egg on top of the fried rice. There are also some keropok served beside the fried rice. However, the fried rice is quite oily and it doesn't taste as good as i expected as well. The fried rice consists of some mix vegetables (carrots, long beans and corns), slices of chicken, slices of pineapple. But the most 'special' part of the rice is, there a lots of raisin inside the fried rice. It is kinda weird as i never taste any 'Asian fried rice' with raisins. Mkit didn't like it at all, but he ate most of it as I only took a few spoon of it. I think i had taste better pineapple fried rice before in other place.

p/s : Just a place to hang out for drink and some quite snack, or a place to have lunch with your colleagues when u got no other place to go. Maybe i will visit the cafe again to try other dishes.

Big Apple Donut

Ok just a short post for today..kinda tired..

After my dinner with Kit, Money and Kenneth, I had eagerly asked Money to accompany me to buy Big Apple.

Big Apple (box)

The queue is so CRAZY!!! There are so many people lining up to buy the donuts that promte The Simpsons.

I waited for about 7 mins when it reach my turn to order my donuts.

I bought 3 donuts, 2 Choreo and 1 Go nuts. 1 of the Choreo is for Kenneth while the other 2 are for myself hehehe..I kinda regret because after ordered the donuts, because i spoted a donut name chocozino (mayb wrong spelling). The donut is coated with lots of chocolate top!!! look so yummy!!!

Donuts that i bought..

Anyway i didn't eat the donut on the spot, as i decided to eat it as my breakfast tomorrow morning.

Choreo Donut

So this morning, while accompany Damian eating his 'chee cheong fun' for his breakfast, I had my Choreo Donut.. It taste was so good!!! The donut is so soft and there is a lot of 'Oreo power' on top on it. The Oreo is not very sweet, but just nice for me.

Go nuts Donut

While i was happily eating my donut, i saw Yie Loon walking towards our table.. He is a superb fan of Big Apple. So i decided to offer him the Go nuts donut. He 'humbly' took it and finish it within 1min!!!!! He is really a fan!

Anyway i did enjoy the Choreo Donut..I am hunger and craving for another one ......!!!

Restoran Makanan Laut Zhen Liew Siang

Tonight, i had a decent and delicious dinner. The best thing about it was i remember to take picture of the food that i ordered :)

After much discussions, Kit had suggested that we have our dinner at a decent Chinese restaurant that we often visit for the past few years, so that i can have more material to put here. The Chinese restaurant is called Restoran Makanan Laut Zhen Liew Siang.

Picture taken from the billboard of the restaurant

I took the name card of the restaurant, so that i can get the correct details of it.
This restaurant is situated along the shop lots at Sentul Raya. It is just a few shops away from Public Bank.

The address&contact number of the restaurant is...

Address & Contact number of the restaurant

In case u are not familiar with the area, i capture a simple map of its location from the name card of the restaurant.

Simple map of its location

Customer can actually call the restaurant for reservations. They can even ordered their food in advanced and once the customer arrive, they will be given the priority to get the food served first. The restaurant also accept 'take away' dish. Customer may order some dishes to be taken out and enjoy it at home

Ok lets go back to what we had ordered...

The first dish that came to our table was their signature dish, Clay pot Fish Curry. If you are a fan of fish head, u may order its fish head curry. Since i don't fancy much about fish head we decided to order the fish curry with extra 'tau fu pok'. yummy!

Fish Curry

When the fish curry is arriving, u can actually smell its aroma coming towards you. That aroma makes u damn hungry.. hehe... The fish curry has some cabbage, long beans, brinjal and lots of tau fu pok mix with the fishes. The fish is fresh and taste good! The curry is quite thick and really mix well with the white rice.. Yeah...

The tau fu pok is the best among the rest!!!! It absorb the curry very well, so once u bite on it ...yum yum yum...its so hard to explain u need to try it!! I ate almost all the tau fu pok..Kit only manage to grab a few piece of it only but, Kit ate most of the fish...see i am a fair person :P

My plate of white rice&fish curry

The second dish that came over was the vegetable. I am not sure what is the name of this vegetables in English, but in Cantonese it is call ' Fan shui miew' . I like to eat this vegetables too. It was cook in a simple way, just some oil , salt and garlic. The vegetables are fresh and not too oily or salty.

Vegetables (sigh, i almost forgot to capture the picture
and my camera din work well on it)

The last dish that we came from our order, was the fried chicken wing. This fried chicken wing is also one of their signature dish. Hence this is also one of my favourite dish from this restaurant. (so to Alvin) hehe...

Fried chicken wings

The chicken wing is marinated with an ingredient call 'nam yu' in Cantonese and fried till golden brown. It is very crispy and hot. If u like the taste of 'nam yu' u definitely love eating this fried chicken wing. U even enjoy eating it just like that without the rice.. It suit for both kids and adults :)

This restaurant is a double storey restaurant. Whereby the upper floor actually is air conditioned. There is also another 'Restoran XXXX Liew Siang' in Sentul. This restaurant is in Bandar Baru Sentul, also along shop lots. I also heard that there is another one around Kepong. All this 'Liew Siang' has the served the same signature dish. I am not sure which is the original one and why they spilt up. But i certainly enjoy the food in this Restoran Makanan Laut Zhen Liew Siang.

p/s -There have lots more signature dish such as, hot pan prawn and squid in Indonesian style, shark meat, pork knuckles, crabs, clay pot sea food bowl and many more. Do give it a try when u feel like having Chinese food .

Mooncakes

I am kinda bored with my job at the moment, so i decided to drop by my delicious blog.

However, i am running out of food to introduce as yesterday i had some hawker food at Pudu but i forgotten to capture the photos... aarggh too greedy!!

So i decided to talk about Mooncakes , i know is kinda outdated, but i still want to talk about it!

Mooncakes.... picture grab from Fook Pan's website

First, there are some mini moon cakes my company got from Equatorial Hotel.

Equatorial Hotel Mini moon cakes

There 18 mini mooncakes in each box. Where there are 3 types of flavour ; Lotus paste, Low sugar lotus paste and chocolate. 6 mini moon cakes for each flavour.

I had tasted all 3 flavour. I persoanally feel that the mooncakes taste wasn't that good. I think there are more better taste than this one. The best among the 3 flavour will be low sugar lotus. It is not very sweet and still maintain the lotus taste. The chocolate flavour is one of the worst. As i am a chocolate lover, i have a very high expectation for chocolate!! This chocolate mooncakes had disappointed me :(

Fook Pan's Mooncakes

My recomendation for chocolate flavour mooncake will be Fook Pan. Fook Pan is the original chocolate and butter mooncakes baker. Their bakeries 'factory' is situated along Jln Ipoh (Caltex petrol station). They do not sell thier product at shoipping center , pasar malam or herbal shop like the other brand. But they do sell thier product in some chinese vegetarian restaurant at taipan and petaling jaya. Therefore there will be no discount for those purchase there. They also practise 'direct selling' where u can purchase thier product from thier factory. That is also one of the reason why thier products are fresh and they give discount to customers.

Anyway, my favourite mooncakes is the 'Ng Yan' flavour. The fillings of this mooncake consists of almond nuts, sunflower seed, sugar winter melon and lots of other nuts!!

I really love eating it.. However, many people always laugh on me when i said i love this mooncake. Especially my sisters, Jaime and Emily. They often commented that this mooncake is for old people!!..
Anyway i don't care ... i still enjoy eating it!

OK enought of mooncakes...

Screaming Bananas

Yesterday, my company organised a luncheon for the staffs. The lunch is to celebrate some colleagues 's birthday and also farewell :S

The company decided to have our lunch at a place call Screaming Bananas. I wonder why the bananas are screaming... hmmm... anyway, this restaurant-cafe is situated at Block C , Phileo Damansara 1. This is a double storey restaurant-cafe, where the main entrance , kitchen and the cashier counter is on the ground floor, while upper floor is mainly tables and chairs to serve customers. The environment of the restaurant is quite ok... Good place to go for lunch where u have some company celebration and u want to do it nearby your office. This fusion food restaurant served variety of food, from nasi lemak to lamb chop and crepes.

Anyway, for my lunch, i ordered a plate of nasi goreng kampung. There is a fried egg in sunny side up style (bull's eye) on top of the fried rice. There are some small prawns, lots of long beans and eggs that fried together with the rice. The nasi goreng kampung is served together with some keropok, sambal belacan, ikan bilis , cut long beans and few slices of cucumber.

Nasi Goreng Kampung

However, the taste of the fried rice is not good!!!!. The rice is cold, not even warm!!!. The rice is also very oily!!!! Very unhealthy!!! The bull's eye is so hard. I didn't even finish it. I stop after my second bite. The sambal belacan was ok, quite spicy. The keropok and anchovies were quite crispy. Kinda disappointed...I only enjoyed eating the keropok and the cucumber..... :(

Jin Han's Rice with Kapitan Curry

One of my colleague, Jin Han order Rice with Kapitan Curry... Jin Han commented that the chicken is very hard! The curry doesn't smell good. The dishes is also cold!! sigh...

Andrew Lai's Lamb Chop with Tomato Mint Relish

While my other colleague, Andrew Lai had Lamb Chop with Tomato Mint Relish. I steal one of the potato wedges to try, it was cold also but the taste is ok. As for the lamb chop, Andrew mentioned that it was just ok...

However, there is something that i need to praise about this restaurant, which is the staff. The waiter and waitress of the restaurant is very friendly and soft spoken. They are also very fast in responding to our needs. They greet us politely and with a smile :) !!!!

OK... time to rate the place...

p/s : Now i know why the bananas are screaming... food is bad...food is bad...

  • Environment : 6/10

Ichiban Izakaya - Japanesse Food AGAIN!!!!

hi all

I am back..!!
Yes again i went to Ichiban Izakaya again for dinner again, with the same person again!!

This time we ordered something else but maintaining my favourite Ramen and fried chicken

Tofu (cold dish)

While waiting for our dishes to come, the restaurant actually served some 'cold dish' to the customer. This time the restaurant had served us some cold tofu with a little bit kimchi on top of it.. The tofu taste was quite pleasant, quite soft. However the kimchi was kinda 'spicy' for me.

Ichiban Bento Set Side Dishes

Not long later, the side dishes of our Ichiban Bento set arrived.. The side dishes includes a bowl of salad, chawan mushi, miso soup and some fruits (green apple, honey dew and watermelon each one slice). The chawan mushi taste is very good. The textures is very soft and melt the moment it reaches my mouth . There are few slices of mushrooms and crab stick in the chawan mushi. However, i am not a fan of mushrooms and crab stick, so i leave it there for Kit to finish the job. Next my miso soup...yummy!!! I am really a fan of miso, any miso soup is fine with me!!
The salad taste like the usual salad. The lettuces, tomato and cucumber are fresh, i like the Japanese cucumber very much...

Miso Ramen

Gyoza

Next, the Miso Ramen arrived. Like my previous post, the miso ramen really taste good!! One of the best ramen that i had ever taste :) While i was busy eating the ramen, Kit's gyoza came. I only took one piece of the gyoza, as i wasn't too fancy about it.

Tempura Udon

Later, the Tempura Udon came. The Tempura Udon consists of a bowl of Udon soup, and a prawn, a slice of sweet potato and a slice of brinjal fried in tempura style. There are lots of soften seaweeds and 2 slices of fish cake (in pink colour flower pattern) served on top with the Udon. The udon taste like the ordinary udon, nothing special about it. But the soup is very clear and not very salty. It has a little bit taste of 'tea leaf' on it. Good for a simple meal.
Finally, the Ichiban Bento Set came together with my favourite fried chicken. Yummy!!...

Ichiban Bento Set

Fried Chicken

The fried chicken taste remain like the previous time, very hot and crispy.. Taste good..

Unagi

Inari

The Ichiban Bento Set consists of some green peas, a slice of Unagi , 2 inari bean curb, sashimi and some fried dish (prawn, chicken and a small fish). I like the green peas very much. It is quite crunchy and nice to eat, a very good snack. The unagi taste was not bad. It is quite soft and the teriyaki sauce is not very sweet like the others. But i only had one bite on it, the rest are eaten buy Kit. The inari is served cold and the rice has lesser vinegar smell compare to the other inari that i had before, while the bean curb is quite soft.

Fried dishes

Sashimi

As for the fried dishes, i took the prawn only. The boneless fried chicken taste like the fried chicken that we ordered ala carte. There is a lot of 'flour' or crumbs on the fried prawn, the prawn meat is very little only compare to the tempura prawn in my udon, feel a bit cheated when i bite on it.. :( As for the fried fish, i am not very sure what type of fish is it, i think is mackerel fish (if anyone know please tell me!!). I had a bite, it is very crispy.. Not sure if there are bones or it was fried till the bones are crispy and able to be eaten.

For the sashimi, there are 2 slices of salmon, tuna, sardine and octopus with some wasabi at the corner of the bento box. To be honest, i didn't eat any slice of it. hehehe... I am very full and not really a fan of sashimi. Kit finish it all and he mention that the salmon and sardine taste very fresh and nice. As for the tuna and octopus, it taste normal only nothing special about it.

Overall, i really enjoy having meal in this restaurant. (else i won't go back again :P). The must try items that i recommend are the Miso Ramen and Fried chicken.

OK rating time again...

p/s : they do give member card for their patron, RM20 is equal to 1 point. After certain point accumulated, u will get a free sake or voucher. The membership is free, but he member card privillage is not very attractive and benificial.
